لماذا سميت أمريكا بهذا الاسم ؟
تُعدّ الولايات المُتّحدة الأمريكيّة جمهوريّة دستوريّة اتّحاديّة. وتضمّ 50 ولاية تقع مُعظمها في قارّة أمريكا الشماليّة، حيث تقع واشنطن العاصمة و48 ولاية أُخری بين المُحيط الأطلسيّ والمُحيط الهادئ. وتشترك في حدودها مع كندا والمكسيك، لكن هل تعرف لماذا سميت أمريكا بهذا الإسم؟ ..
يعود اسم أمريكا نسبة إلى البحار الإيطالي أمريجو فيسبوتشى، والذي ولد في عام 1454م، وتوفي في سنة 1512م، وقد قام بالعديد من الرحلات البحرية الاستكشافية، ومن أهمّها الرحلة التي قام بها في عام 1500م، تحت رعاية البرتغال.
وقد وصل أمريجو للمرة الأولى إلى ساحل البرازيل، واكتشف نهر بليت، وقد أدرك أنّ هناك أرض جديدة ليست من قارة آسيا، وفي عام 1507م اقترح الناس أن تسمّى هذه الأرض الجديدة باسم أمريكا نسبة إلى أميرجو.
